December Newsletter

Month in Review

December was an exciting and action-packed month. It was probably our month with the most opportunities for outreach and evangelism since the start of the mission revitalization process.

Movie Night

We had a movie night on December 7. There were 17 people in attendance. We showed the movie My Son, My Savior and had a brief devotion. All in attendance got to take home a copy of the movie.

Kingdom Workers

We had a team of four Kingdom Workers visit December 17-23. The team canvassed and conducted a survey. The survey was aimed at better understanding community interest in a Mornings with Mommy group, a small group bible study for people struggling with addictions, and English classes. The team also helped with our Celebration of Las Posadas.

Dress Rehearsal

We had a dress rehearsal for Las Posadas and pizza party for our catechism students and families on December 18. There were 26 people in attendance. This was a great fellowship opportunity.

We had our celebration of Las Posadas on December 23. We counted at least 113 people in attendance. We had 8 of our catechism students and 2 additional member children dress up as Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, and Angels. They led a procession with the mariachi into the church. Inside, the catechism students and children recited verses from Luke 2 and sang two stanzas of Silent Night. There are videos of this event on our Facebook and YouTube pages. We received 19 names and phone numbers at the event requesting more information about the church. In addition to the Las Posadas procession, we had a petting zoo, jumper, and crafts station. The Bell Gardens Neighborhood Watch, Human Services Association, and Red Cross tabled at the event. The ladies of Cristo Rey served Pozole, Tamales, Cookies, Popcorn, and Hot Chocolate. Members and prospective members helped with the setup, execution, and tear down of the event. In addition to serving as an effective outreach event, it was an effective fellowship event.

Christmas Services

We had a bilingual lessons and carols service on December 23 with first time visitors from the Las Posadas. We had bilingual services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Our catechism students recited verses from Luke 2 and sang two stanzas of Silent Night at the Christmas Eve service. There were 32 in attendance on Christmas Eve. There were 30 in attendance on Christmas Day. Both these services included visitors from the Las Posadas.

We are hoping to launch the program in Santa Ana in the spring and add Bell Gardens and Pomona in the fall of 2019.
