August Newsletter

Outreach Volunteer

Recently, God blessed us with a volunteer from the North Hollywood congregation to help with outreach and evangelism. He will be spending most Thursdays and Fridays helping Pastor Matt with producing content for social media, canvassing neighborhoods, and making visits to our prospects. He will also lead an adult bible study in Spanish on Friday evenings during the youth catechism class. Approximately once a month, he will join us for worship.

Community Scan

On Tuesday, July 31 through Friday, August 3 four volunteers from Kingdom Workers canvassed the neighborhoods surrounding the church. They invited our neighbors to our back-to-school event and building dedication. They also asked our neighbors to complete a brief survey relating to needs in the community. There were 41 prospects generated through the canvassing.

Community Focus Group

On August 3, we hosted a community focus group. It was facilitated by Kingdom Workers. The goal was to identify underserved needs in our community. This is part of a longer-term partnership with Kingdom Workers to develop a new ministry at Cristo Rey that could be staffed by Kingdom Workers aimed at sharing the gospel and serving those in need. We had seventeen individuals participate.

Back-to-School Event

On August 3 from 5pm to 7pm we hosted a back-to-school event. Approximately 120 people attended. This event provided free food and school supplies to children. It had jumpers, pony rides, a petting zoo, and music from a mariachi band. There were also several community partners and non-profit organizations who attended, sharing their resources. At the end of the event, we conducted a short blessing of the school year and shared a brief gospel message. We received 34 names and phone numbers at this event. There were 17 people who asked to be called about baptism or catechism.

Building Dedication Service

On Sunday, August 5 we held a dedication service for our remodeled building. The purpose of the dedication service was to dedicate the building to God’s glory and for the preaching of his Word and the administration of his sacraments. It was also to ask for God’s blessing upon our building, mission, and ministry. After the service, we had a reception outside. We had 47 in attendance.

Future Outreach Events

On September 15, we have been invited to give a blessing of the golfers at the start of the annual Bell Gardens Golf Tournament. We will also serve as a tee sponsor.

On October 20, we will have a table at the first annual Taste of Bell Gardens located on the corner of Eastern Ave and Florence Ave.

On December 21, we will be hosting our Christmas Posada. This year we will be especially focusing on the Posada and the reading of Luke 2 with a gospel presentation.
