What is Baptism?

Baptism is an wonderful blessing from God. It looks like a simple act, the sprinkling of water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. However, this simple act brings life-changing blessings. In baptism we have our sins washed away (Acts 2:38-39 and Acts 22:16). We have faith in Jesus Christ created or strengthened in our hearts (John 3:5 and Titus 3:4-6). We officially become children of God (Galatians 3:26-27). We are united with Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-4).

Will you baptize me or my child?

We are happy to arrange baptism for you or your child. Baptism is available after a Baptismal Information Class. This class provides a basic overview of the Christian faith and baptism. There is no cost and it is taught on an individual basis. In the case of the baptism of a child, we require the parents (or guardians) and padrinos (godparents or sponsors) to attend this class. Emergency baptism (for example, a infant whose life is in danger) is available at any time.

What will I learn in the Baptism Information Class?

This class provides an overview of the Christian faith and explains the significance of baptism. The class has three lessons. The first lesson centers on the certainty of eternal life. The second lesson focuses on God’s Word. The third lesson provides an overview of baptism.

What is the Baptismal service like?

We typically practice baptism during a worship service. Our worship services follow a liturgy, or order of service. Our liturgy incorporates the confession and absolution of our sins, prayers, scripture readings, the confession of our faith using the Apostles Creed, a homily, and hymns. We can conduct the baptism at either a Spanish or an English service.

What happens after Baptism?

Baptism should always be the start of a person’s connection to Christ and relationship with the church. After adult baptism, adults are encouraged to continue their study of God’s Word and involvement in the church. After the baptism of a child, parents and godparents are urged to instruct that child in God’s Word and keep them involved in the church.
